Telecom Core Network Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and maintain core network elements, including routers, switches, and servers. Configure and manage routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS within the core network. Implement and troubleshoot MPLS, VPNs, and other transport technologies. Ensure network security by implementing firewalls, access control lists, and other security measures. Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies. Perform root cause analysis for network incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Collaborate with other engineering teams, including access, transport, and service assurance, to ensure seamless network operation. Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, diagrams, and operational guides. Participate in capacity planning and network expansion projects. Stay current with industry advancements and new technologies in telecommunications core networking. Provide on-call support for network issues as part of a rotating schedule. Evaluate and test new hardware and software solutions for the core network.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in telecommunications core network engineering. Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices from leading vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Arista). Strong understanding of IP networking, routing protocols, MPLS, and QoS. Experience with network virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM) and SDN concepts is highly desirable. Familiarity with network security principles and best practices. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work environment. Experience with scripting for network automation (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a plus. Relevant certifications such as CCIE, JNCIE are advantageous.
