Payroll Manager, Remote Job

Remote · Nigeria Full-time

Role Overview As a Senior Payroll Manager at Temporal, you’ll be the cornerstone of the accounting team, reporting directly to the Controller. You’ll own all payroll operations in the US and play a pivotal role in establishing compliant payroll systems across new international subsidiaries (UK, Singapore, Canada, India, Australia). This is a high-impact role requiring precision, strong organizational skills, and the ability to build scalable processes from scratch. Base Salary: $5,500 – $7,000 USD per month

Key Responsibilities

US Payroll Operations

  • Manage semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll cycles across multiple states
  • Partner with HR on compensation, benefits, and equity events (NSOs, RSUs, ISOs)
  • Administer payroll inputs (new hires, terminations, bonuses, commissions, relocations, LOA, etc.)
  • Maintain multi-state tax registrations, filings, and compliance
  • Oversee W-2 preparation, reconciliations, and resolution of tax notices
  • Act as subject matter expert for US payroll

International Payroll

  • Stand up compliant payroll operations in UK, Singapore, Canada, India, and Australia
  • Coordinate with local payroll providers, review registers, approve runs, and resolve discrepancies
  • Advise on statutory deductions, employer obligations, and pay frequency norms
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, and HR to ensure readiness for new hires

Compliance & Controls

  • Establish and enforce SOX-compliant internal controls
  • Oversee payroll audits (Workers’ Compensation, 401(k))
  • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws across jurisdictions
  • Maintain audit readiness for IPO preparation

Accounting & Month-End Close

  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries; reconcile GL accounts monthly
  • Support annual audit (EY) with schedules and documentation
  • Assist with equity compensation accounting (Form 3921, ASC 718 inputs)

Systems, Automation & Process

  • Maintain and optimize Rippling payroll configuration
  • Lead automation initiatives and system integrations
  • Document and update payroll SOPs
  • Drive process improvements and special projects

What You’ll Need

  • 8+ years of payroll experience, with 3+ years managing full-cycle US payroll independently
  • Deep expertise in equity compensation processing and tax implications
  • Strong grasp of US payroll tax compliance (multi-state, garnishments, supplemental wages)
  • Exposure to international payroll in at least two target countries
  • Experience with Rippling (required); system migration/configuration a plus
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills for reconciliations and schedules
  • Audit support experience; SOX or IPO readiness exposure preferred
  • CPP or FPC designation
  • Experience with EOR-to-subsidiary transitions internationally
  • Familiarity with AI/automation tools applied to payroll workflows

Why This Role Matters Temporal is scaling globally, and payroll is a critical backbone of that growth. You’ll ensure employees are paid accurately and on time, while building compliant systems across multiple countries. This role offers autonomy, visibility, and the chance to design processes that will support IPO readiness and international expansion.
